What is the Flight for Cancer?
On Saturday, June 16, 2012, the Pegasus Radio Controlled Airplane Club is excited to host a unique fundraising event for the John R. Marsh Cancer Center’s Patient Emergency fund. The Second Annual Pegasus Flight for Cancer begins at 9am and will last until 6pm. Prepare to be impressed as the skilled pilots of the Pegasus Club put their skills on display for you with scheduled demonstrations throughout the day. All pilots will pay a minimum $10 landing fee, but the pilot that contributes the most gets the "grand prize"! The model airport will be open, not only to its own members, but to members of surrounding R/C clubs who are Academy of Model Aeronautics (www.modelaircraft.org) members. If you have ever wanted to get behind the “wheel” of a model airplane, this is your chance! For a donation of your choice, we will let you fly one of our planes, safely connected to an instructor with a buddy cord!
Some of the demonstrations planned are large aerobatic planes fling precision and gravity defying freestyle aerobatics, super fast electric and the 200mph turbine powered jets and watch the chaos of R/C combat. We'll have period flights that will include war birds from the First and Second World Wars and we'll paint the sky "Cub Yellow" with a flight honoring the venerable Piper J-3 Cub. You'll also see a very wide variety of airplanes on the ground and be able to talk to the pilots and builders about their models. For a taste of what you may see, visit our Photo Gallery of the 2011 Flight for Cancer.
We will be offering free R/C computer simulators, if you want just a taste of the fun. And, of course, if you want to just watch, bring your lawn chair and spend the day! Food vendors will be available, so grab a bite to eat while you watch. We have entertainment for the kids too! They can jump in the moon bounce or get their face painted.
Local businesses have contributed a variety of prizes for a raffle that will go on throughout the day.
Most importantly, every dollar donated for flight time, games or raffles will go directly to the patients of the John R. Marsh Cancer center!
Our flying field is located on the north east side of Hagerstown, MD at 19800 Old Forge Road. From the Dual Highway, take Eastern Boulevard east towards Longmeadow, make a right on Antietam Drive, just before the YMCA. At the 3 way stop, make a left and the Pegasus R/C Club will be ½ mile on the left. Come join in our day of fun and support this great cause!
